During the month of May, Scudder Falls Zen is offering a series of free introductory meditation classes for people who want to explore the possibilities of meditation to improve their mindfulness, energy, joy, tranquility, and concentration. No preparation or previous experience required. Each class explores a different style of Buddhist meditation, and will consist of a brief lecture followed by a guided meditation exercise. Handouts provided.
Meditation Class #1: Mindfulness-of-Breathing (Ānāpānasati)

Mindfulness-of-Breathing is a fundamental meditation exercise that you can do anywhere. It cultivates mental concentration and tranquility.

The Four Foundations of Mindfulness are mindfulness of the body, feelings, mind, and phenomena. This builds upon mindfulness-of-breathing, expanding it to mindfulness of all you experience.

Loving-kindness meditation helps you cultivate compassion for all beings, which also helps end your own suffering.

A Tibetan Buddhist practice that cultivates wisdom and compassion through memorizing slogans you then apply mindfully and consistently in your daily life.
